Trauma
and
PTSD

Trauma can have far reaching effects on how you navigate your world. It can cause PTSD and fear that is difficult to overcome without help to cope and remove the deep emotional charge. It can affect our self worth, our behaviors, and and our relationships. The causes of trauma can be varied. Psychological abuse, bullying, continually feeling diminished, surgery, sexual and physical abuse, military service, and more can affect you in ways that make it far more difficult to handle your life. I work with clients to help recognize and release trauma and teach them coping methods to help them heal from their trauma.
In 2004 Maki experienced multiple surgeries and almost died which resulted in experiencing extreme PTSD. Without this experience she couldn’t have understood how PTSD is not something you can treat logically and just push through it. When the fear and anxiety hit people feel completely out of control and alone with indescribable fear. Without coping mechanisms or support it is much more difficult to deal with. The good news is there are tools that help and allow you to feel safe and in charge of your situation.
Sometimes the trauma you might experience isn’t so deep that it interferes with your life on the surface but it can your self- worth or self-image which keeps you slightly afraid to let your light shine fully and live up to your true potential. An example of this could be a few years of being ostracized and made fun of in school. Although you may be grown now with lots of friends and more confidence, this experience can cause you to always play it safe or to not set boundaries in relationships as a deep rooted fear of not being enough lingers in your sub-conscious.
Other trauma such as sexual abuse or violence can cause panic attacks, lashing out, debilitating fear and more. It requires very specific coping methods and ways to release the deep emotional scars. Addressing these traumas and making the commitment to heal can open up a whole new world of possibilities for your life!
